DIY Wind Turbines
With the increasing energy crisis and rising electricity bills, having an alternative source of electricity at your home is a very good idea. Wind turbines provide a clean source of energy and one of the most accessible renewable energy sources. If you set up a DIY wind turbine at your home, you will be less vulnerable to power outages or continuously increasing energy bills.
The DIY wind turbine is not that hard to make, as it may seem. It takes a bit longer to build a big wind turbine; therefore it is a good idea to start with a small wind turbine. When you get the hold of the procedure, you can make a big one.
The best place to put your DIY wind turbine is where it can get the maximum air. It means that you should not place your turbine where there are too many obstacles. An elevated position is better since it can get more air up there. By contrast , under a tree is not a good place to put a wind turbine.
The start speed is a very important thing when you decide to make a wind turbine. The start speed is affected by the size of the wind turbine. A smaller wind turbine requires wind at less speed while a larger generator would not produce electricity without high-speed wind blowing through it. However if it can get enough wind to get started, then the larger a wind turbine, the more productive it is.
For this reason if you live in an area, where there is not so much in the way of high wind speed then it is good to have two small generators instead of a big one.
An added benefit of having two small generators is that you can still produce some energy if one of the wind turbines stops working. One big wind turbine with a start speed of 8mph would produce just as much electricity as two wind turbines of 4 mph start speed.
DIY wind turbines are easy and cheap and they save lot of money in the long run. A commercially built wind turbine is very expensive. And most of the commercial wind turbines would not fit in a small house, so you need something with an appropriate size.
One of the best things about using a wind turbine to generate electricity for home use is that you also contribute to saving the environment. By relying on fossil fuels for our energy needs, we are not only destroying the earth, but also harming the human beings and other creatures. If you set up a DIY wind turbine the you are using the blowing wind as a means to produce electricity and no fossil fuels or resources are used. A DIY wind turbine is one of the cleanest ways to produce electricity.
If you live at a place where very less wind blows, then making a wind turbine would not be a great idea. In such a place the best thing to do is to get a magnetic generators. A magnetic generator does not require wind or sunlight to produce electricity. However, a magnetic power generator can be expensive to build as compared to a wind turbine. Wind turbines are cheap and easy to make and if one make it himself then they are even cheaper.
